Visit of Sr Emily from Kenya

For many years Linux4Afrika has supported St. Scholastica Catholic School of the Benedictine Missionary Sisters of Tutzing in Ruaraka, Nairobi. Invited by Linux4Afrika Sr. Emily, principal of the school, was our guest for some days at the end of March. A considerable and multicoloured program had been planned for Sr. Emily by the host families Scholtz and Merkel: trips with Michael and Birgit around the Lake of Constance with country hopping (Switzerland, Germany, Austria) and an exciting cable car ride.

With Christina and Franz as tour guides Sr. Emily got to know Freiburg, where it was a must to eat the „Red sausage“ on the market place around the Minster of Freiburg, of course. With Gilla and HP she went on tour through the South of the Black Forest with a visit to the traditional farm houses of the Vogtsbauernhöfe and a short trip to Straßburg with a boat ride on the river Ill. So with France another country was added to the list of European countries that Sr. Emily visited.

Beside this sight-seeing program there were several meetings with Sr. Emily, the Linux4Afrika-Team as well as friends and sponsors of our project. Sr. Emily presented the St. Scholastica School in a short address and reported how much the commitment of Linux4Afrika had helped the St. Scholastica School. Thanks to the donations and the dedicated efforts of the Linux4Afrika-Team here in Freiburg and on site in Ruaraka the school now possesses two excellently equipped computer rooms as they can´t be found at another school in Nairobi. She thanks all members and friends, who support the school project.

We enjoyed having time and opportunity to exchange all kinds of experiences with Sr. Emily besides the tourist program. After the visit – on April 3rd – Sr. Emily flew from Zürich to Rome to the “International Conference of the Benedictine Educators Network“, where 170 teachers took part as representatives of 71 schools from 21 countries.
